Every child is an artist at Scoresby Primary School!

All students visit the Art room for an hour each week. Visual Arts lessons incorporate the areas of drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, textiles, modelling and construction. Students view, discuss and create art inspired by different cultures, time periods, art styles and/or the works of famous artists. In our weekly sessions students develop their confidence when creating and are encouraged to experiment with new ideas, materials, concepts and techniques. Our corridor displays and annual Art Show celebrate our student’s artistic creations.

performing arts

The Performing Arts program is a special feature of Scoresby Primary School, providing students from Foundation to Level 6 the opportunity to participate in a range of exciting and engaging Performing Arts activities, including ensemble practice, dancing, the school choir and music lessons, as well as whole school performances at the end of each year.

Students learn about music theory, music history and follow a Teaching and Learning Scope and Sequence that develops practical instrumental skills. Lessons are designed to be fun and engaging with an emphasis on teamwork and making music as a class ensemble.

Performance skills are showcased and celebrated in our school productions, which are held every second year. This is an opportunity to undergo auditions and rehearsals in preparation for a theatre performance for the whole community.

Lots of fun for everyone!

physical education

physical education

Participation in Physical Education and sport is an important part of the educational journey at SPS. We provide the opportunity for all students to participate in a variety of sports and experiences. These experiences are not only celebrated but also considered essential to the overall growth of our students.

The physical education program at Scoresby PS is responsible for helping students learn the value of Physical Literacy. Physical Literacy gives you physical skills and fitness, the attitudes and emotions that motivate you to be active, the knowledge and understanding of how, why and when you move and the social skills to be active with others. There is a whole school approach to Physical Education at SPS with programs such as Bike Education, PMP, and Sporting Skills Victoria promoting all the positive aspects of being active outside a competitive sporting environment.

Coding and Robotics

Coding and Robotics

Coding is an important skill for every child to learn as it:

  1. Teaches students how to be logical thinkers and problem solvers
  2. Builds confidence and social skills as they learn to code
  3. Expands creativity
  4. Improves academic skills; and is a
  5. Beneficial skill for the future.

At Scoresby Primary School we use Minecraft for Education, Scratch and Scratch jnr, andcode.org to help our students develop their coding skills: These programs use visual blocks to represent programming concepts and terminology such as procedures, loops and conditional instructions.

Robotics

natural extension of coding is the use of robotics A robot is a mechanical device that can be programmed to follow a set of instructions. Robots have processing units, sensors to help them perceive things in the surrounding environment and motors and actuators so that they can move. Robots also have the added programmable functionality of lights, sounds and speech recognition. Our Robotics Program is expanded in complexity as children progress through the school.
